Created in 2001, NExT NETWORK OF EXCELLENCE IN TRAINING is a joint venture company of industry and academic technical leaders. The combination of best-in-class learning opportunities with the broad geographical footprint and customer understanding that Schlumberger offers is a unique advantage for NExT training participants. Over the years, NExT training has expanded its network of academic and industry-provider alliances to deliver competency assessment, design learning solutions, and deploy customized training that addresses the critical skills development of a petrotechnical staff.

- Competency-based technical skills assessment supported by a multilingual, Web-based software system
- Certified training programs, combining instructor-led courses, mentored problem-solving exercises, learning projects, and exams
- Integrated skills development programs, including a preprogram skills assessment that leads to a customized training program-programs range from 3 weeks to 11 months and include class exercises and a class project
- Petroleum Exploration and Production course, a blended learning program, which includes instructor-led training with computer-based training
- Course modules that include over 200 courses in 9 technology areas: drilling, geology, geophysics, petrophysics, production, surface facilities, reservoir engineering, multidisciplinary, and management and economics
- eLearning, a portfolio of distance learning available online or by CD
- Texas A&M and Heriot-Watt University distance-learning petroleum engineering masters programs
- University of Tulsa petrophysics masters program in conjunction with NExT subsurface integration program
