Beijing Geoscience Center
Schlumberger's Center of Excellence for development of acquisition and interpretation software is strategically positioned within a science park in the heart of Beijing’s university district. Its location just outside the West gate of Tsinghua University and within a short walk of Beijing University (BeiDa) offers the Beijing Geoscience Center (BGC) opportunities for collaboration with these prestigious institutions, which are comparable to the USA's Ivy League schools and France's Grandes Écoles.
Since its opening in 1998, BGC has grown to about 170 employees—an equal mix of men and women of exemplary diversity. With an average age of 27 years and an average seniority of 3 years, virtually all are fresh graduates from China's best universities. Their enthusiasm and dedication are matched by their eagerness to acquire knowledge and to contribute.
BGC's petrotechnical and software domain experts work on a diversity of projects varying from formation evaluation to reservoir characterization, production optimization, geomechanics, and seismic geology. BGC functions as a hub for interpretation workflows that cross Schlumberger business lines, the MaxWell field acquisition system and applications, and software development technologies.
The center's activities are grouped into four technical disciplines: formation evaluation; reservoir and production optimization; well placement, construction, and stability; and applications and integration; plus the framework for the MaxWell system. A Quality Assurance and Testing group and a dedicated IP team support the center and its work.
