PDSView FAQ
This document provides important information about use of PDSView
What are the installation requirements for PDSView?
PDSView should be installed on recent versions of the Windows operation systems with current updates and patches applied. Windows 2000 and Windows XP are the recommended operating systems. Minimal testing has been done on Windows Vista and the only known issue is that Windows Vista does not by default support the help file viewer for the hlp files such as the one included with PDSView. More information on the Vista help viewer including the download can be found by searching the Microsoft web site for "KB917607".
The PDSView installer adds files to "Program Files" directory and adds information to the "current user" and "local machine" parts of the registry. The account used to install PDSView must have write access to these areas. PDSView must be installed from the Administrator account or the user must be in the Power User group of your local PC or from an account with more elevated privileges than the default user or guest accounts. Once installed, PDSView can be used from user accounts with lower privileges. To setup and use printers, the user must have write access to the "HKLM\Software\Schlumberger\PDSView" part of the registry.

Why is my plotter cutting the log into separate pages?
You may need to set the printer to "Banner" mode. On HP Designjets this is usually an option in the menus on the front panel of the printer itself. For an Epson, it is a paper size selection.

How can I stop HP plotter feeding paper continuously after the print?
Under printer settings try to find the selection: "PAGE FORMAT".
Here there should be a setting called "SIZE".
Set it to "INKED AREA"and try to print again.
You'll need to perform this procedure on the printer itself rather than software driver on the PC.

What can I do if my printer is not in the recommended printers list?
When you have a printer which is not in the recommended printer list, you'll be using High Road SFTPRINT model. Below is some info from release notes.
High-road model using SftPrint
When you select Default Windows Printer for printing a PDS file, PDSView uses SftPrint - the high-road model. In this model of printing PDSView will translate the PDS graphics into Windows GDI format. Specific printer drivers for the selected printer take this GDI data and translate it into rasters that the selected printer can print. This model of printing is not as robust as low-road model, and is therefore, not recommended. It should only be used if your printer is not one of the printers supported by SftRender. Schlumberger does not guarantee the accuracy of logs printed to any non-supported printers.

If you have PDSView 3 or later, you will notice an option "EPSON 3000 Wide paper only", in Print Setup/Recommended Printers tab. Chose this for the wide GeoFrame prints. Remember to chose "EPSON 3000" for regular sized prints.
