A wide variety of educational services from formal classroom based training to Web-based e-Learning are provided by Schlumberger Information Solutions (SIS). We provide skills assessment and certification programs, structured learning frameworks, and a complete integrated learning environment.Software training is available through courses that encompass the entire software offering, including
  • reservoir characterization software
  • drilling
  • reservoir engineering
  • production operations
  • planning, risk, and reserves
  • information management (IM).
Courses for beginners to advanced users range from training for individual applications to integrated workflow workshops. For a complete learning solution, our Technology Mastery program provides a customized skills-assessment and certification program that includes needs analysis, skills gap analysis, blended learning, domain-specific career roadmaps, mentoring, and certification to accelerate time to competency.

Comprehensive, quality education options

SIS offers five training options:
  • Public—classes at an SIS location with a mixed group of industry attendees
  • In-house—standard training at an SIS or company location with only your personnel attending
  • Custom—customized courses tailored to your particular needs and workflows, possibly using your own data, at either an SIS or a company location
  • e-Learning—distance, Web-based software product training modules
  • Technology Mastery—a complete skills assessment and certification program
We deliver training at more than 25 dedicated training centers around the world. These centers are closely associated with SIS support, technology centers, and centers of excellence—leveraging a vast range of expertise to provide you with comprehensive educational services. We continually update our training content using instructional design. Our delivery methods have expanded to better suit your needs beyond traditional classroom training, with e-Learning, on-the-job training options, and customized skill certification programs.

Customizable, flexible training levels

A three-tiered offering provides flexibility and enables us to meet your training needs.
  • Tier-1 (application-specific) training courses take a blended learning approach that uses e-Learning technology or classroom-based training. The e-Learning technology includes chapters that end with test questions to enhance understanding and verify lessons learned during the course. Bookmarks can be placed for easy return to course sections at a later time. A customized notepad supports personal notes that can be saved with e-Learning materials and printed for future reference.
  • Tier-2 and Tier-3 training includes solutions and workflow training that can be delivered in the classroom, either using your own data or with on-the-job mentorship training. Workflow courses include topics such as prospect generation workflows, uncertainty workflows around seismic attribute analysis, or depth conversion.
Education services associated with SIS applications can be combined with domain technical training from the NExT* Network of Excellence in Training to provide a complete training solution. The NExT company, a joint venture between Schlumberger and three universities, provides training and technology transfer opportunities to the worldwide upstream O&G industry. Our Technology Mastery solution is an extensive educational program that offers competency and skills assessment for your company or department. Together we can create individual or group development plans. Through a Web interface the individual and the manager access training and development assignments, tasks, and e-Learning. This interface reveals individual skill gaps, allowing you to create appropriate development plans.

Instructors are often members of your local support teams, which enables them to make your training relevant to your workflow needs. SIS has a firm commitment to training. We provide our own personnel with a comprehensive initial 3-year training program that equips them with technical and business skills to bring you better support. A competency management and assessment program enables continued technical development beyond the initial training. Simply put, we use the same materials and practices internally that we provide to your teams. In addition, our close relationship with NExT training enables us to provide domain and software application training and mentorship.
