The extremely low permeability of gas shales makes hydraulic fracture stimulation a given in almost all developments. The optimal completion and stimulation strategy requires a technical evaluation that determines individual reservoir characteristics, including matrix permeability, formation pore pressure, relative degree of mechanical property and stress anisotropy, mineral content, and fracture geometry and conductivity.
