Sharing global diversity best practices and women in energy leadership

At Schlumberger a defining aspect of the company’s culture is the diversity of its workforce. Reflecting the belief that diversity spurs creativity and collaboration, Schlumberger employs a diverse workforce of 140 nationalities working in more than 85 countries. Achieving diversity and gender balance across all parts of the organization is ongoing, and has been a focus for the company for more than 25 years.

Advancing women in energy

Schlumberger is a platinum sponsor of the annual Women’s Global Leadership Conference in Energy which brings together women to exchange ideas, network with peers and share industry best practices.

This year’s conference program featured women working in the oil and gas sector including Schlumberger speakers Stephanie Cox, president, North America and Soumya Seetharam, vice president, IT transformation.

With some 600 attendees, the diverse array of presenters provided a unique occasion to exchange insights focused on advancing leadership among women in the industry, building skills, and guidance for creating opportunities for career advancement.

Supporting women in technology

To encourage the next generation of women in the oil and gas industry, Schlumberger supports initiatives around the world for female university students pursuing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

This year events are being held in Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America. A recent workshop held at a university in Villahermosa, Mexico brought together over 150 women STEM students.

At the workshops, attendees learn about the processes and innovation behind today’s oilfield technology. As part of round-table discussions, the students meet Schlumberger female engineers who share their professional experiences and serve as role models. The gatherings cover a range of subjects such as what motivated the panelists to join the oil and gas industry, the training provided, and the variety of assignments available.

Diversity best practice

At the 12th Annual Texas Diversity and Leadership Conference, business leaders were recognized with a series of awards highlighting commitment to diversity and inclusion. A multicultural leadership award was presented to Sudhir Pai, managing director, Liquid Robotics Oil & Gas, a joint venture with Schlumberger. At the conference, Pai also shared diversity insights and best practices during a panel discussion on the importance of the importance of diversity in the global context.
