Inside Schlumberger
- Intelligent Asset Integration
Reservoirs, wellbores, gathering lines, and processing facilities each constitute complex, dynamic systems. Recognizing that performance of each individual system is intimately linked to that of the others, some companies manage them as a single asset. Downhole and surface sensors help operators assess the performance of components from one end of an asset to the other. However, as more downhole and surface sensors and instrumentation are installed, operators are forced to process and manage enormous streams of data.
- Managing Complex Assets from Reservoir to Process Plant
Efficient management of large, mature fields is challenging. In the Mumbai High field, which represents 40% of India's crude oil production, the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) manages production from almost 700 oil and gas wells and 200 water-injection wells. ONGC set a goal, not only to arrest decline, but to boost production in this mature field primarily through optimizing the gas lift operations. After a massive data-gathering program, ONGC ran simulations to history-match model predictions of pressure, temperature, and rates. This analysis provided more than 350 opportunities to improve production.
