Water Chemistry

Key component of multidisciplinary studies of oil, gas, and rock interaction in a variety of conditions and applications

Schlumberger Reservoir Laboratories provide full aqueous geochemistry sample acquisition and analysis services, supported by experts who advise on sample capture, preservation, shipping, and standardized analytical methodologies.

While often outside the focus of fluid-property evaluation, aqueous geochemistry provides information and insight that are fundamental to any successful field development plan. Water properties have applications across the full E&P cycle—from field exploration and development through production.

Aqueous geochemical theories and methods are used in studying the interaction of oil, gas, and rock as well as in planning and implementing EOR schemes and developing unconventional resources. Accurate, precise aqueous chemical and physical properties are also necessary for flow assurance, special core analysis studies, and modeling petrophysical properties, scaling, and corrosion.

Aqueous geochemistry services assure that high-quality formation- and produced-water properties data are delivered at every stage of field development.

Schlumberger performs aqueous geochemistry and petroleum geochemistry studies as part of the wide portfolio of services we offer, including PVT and flow assurance. Major regional laboratories are equipped with a full range of equipment, and smaller facilities handle all basic, time-sensitive measurements and interpretation. Technical support is centrally coordinated to enhance knowledge and experience sharing as well as to improve data quality assurance.

By integrating aqueous geochemistry with our other fluid and rock services, Schlumberger reduces the HSE and service-quality risk that is associated with shipment. Analytical methods are standardized with strict QA/QC regulations to ensure uncompromised sample integrity—from initial analysis to final interpreted results. The Schlumberger approach creates fit-for-purpose programs and studies that support field development activities by combining domain expertise with years of industry experience.
