Case Study: ACTIMUL RD Validated as Highly Effective Cold-Weather Emulsifier

Challenge: Non-aqueous drilling fluids are used routinely for extended reach drilling in North Dakota’s Bakken Shale. With winter temperatures dropping as low as <-31°C (0°F) mixing of liquid chemical additives that normally are packaged in drums becomes a significant challenge.

Solution: M-I SWACO engineered Actimul RD dry emulsifier as a dry additive, specifically to alleviate the problems associated with mixing liquid emulsifiers in cold weather and remote locations with restricted logistics.

Result: The Actimul RD dry emulsifier was applied in Bakken Shale producing well and performed as designed under cold winter conditions.
