Case Study: Compact MD-2 Shaker Outperforms Competition in Eagle Ford Shale Test for Cheyenne Petroleum

Two MD-2 shakers prove more efficient than three-shaker configuration

Challenge: Find a compact shale shaker system that would improve solids control efficiency, retain base fluid, and reduce tank cleaning time.

Solution: Compare the MD-2 dual-deck shale shaker against the traditional setup that was currently in use.

Result: Proved that two MD-2 shakers outperformed three traditional shakers while handling the same flow rate with no overspill; produced drier cuttings without the addition of a drying shaker to pass the paint filter test for trans-portation of cuttings to disposal sites.

During drilling operations in the Eagle Ford Shale, Cheyenne Petroleum Company sought to increase solids control efficiency, retain base fluid, save tank cleaning time, and reduce the fluid systems equipment footprint on its rigs. M-I SWACO, a Schlumberger company, recommended a performance comparison of its MD-2 shakers and fluid drying systems against a traditional system already in use.
