Case Study: WELL SCAVENGER effectively collects and recovers sand and perforation debris in multi-zone gravel pack recompletion

Challenge: The operator planned to recomplete four zones on this offshore well. All of the zones were to be reperforated, gravel packed and returned to production.

Solution: The WELL SCAVENGER is a modular tool run on the end of a work string to create a localized reverse circulation flow path to pick up and trap small pieces of debris, such as sand and scale, inside internal debris chambers and remove them from the well.

Result: All four runs were very efficient, resulting in the successful removal of the spotted ceramic proppant and gun debris, subsequently allowing each packer plug to be retrieved without incident. The tool effectively recovered a total of 82 kg (180 lb) of debris, comprising of ceramic proppant, gun debris and shear screws from the packer plug.

“The Well Scavenger* tool with two debris chambers picked up sand and perforation debris very efficiently, allowing the subsequent retrieval of the zonal isolation plugs to be initiated incident free. We’ll be using this tool again.”
