Profiling flow to plan intervention

An accurate flow profile was needed for cost-effective intervention, but the well’s high water cut obscured conventional density log measurements.

Directly measuring water holdup

Schlumberger ran the FloView holdup measurement tool on the PS Platform production services platform to characterize the flow regime. The probe technology employed by the FloView tool directly determines water holdup and measures the bubble count to accurately identify fluid entry points.

Identifying small oil entries in high water-cut

Schlumberger petrotechnical experts used the FloView holdup measurement tool’s data to construct an accurate flow profile showing small oil entries distributed along all perforated intervals and a water cut of approximately 94%. A flow profile based on only fluid density measurements estimated the water cut at 70% and showed most of the oil entering at the lowest interval. With the identification of multiple small oil entries, a cost-effective well intervention plan could be planned.
