The integrated M-I SWACO WASTE INJECTION ANALYST (WIA)1 system monitors the injection process parameters within the safe, operational, allowable range for QA/QC. This allows the detection of possible injection-process problems inclusive of determining slurry-settling time. The process consists of acquiring digital field data through specially selected and developed sensors, and providing real-time, on-site diagnostic analyses of the acquired data with purpose-built software. Injection pressures, flow rate, slurry density and slurry rheology provide the basis of the well-monitoring package. The WIA system consists of a skid-mounted unit and a monitoring station that provide real-time measurements of the drill-cuttings slurry being pumped into the injection zone. The skid equipment takes the measurements and then relays the data to the monitoring station which presents real-time displays of operational and alarm conditions.

The data can be used by the waste-injection team to perform real-time performance-trend analysis, pressure monitoring, and comparison of on-going injection operations with pre-injection performance predictions. This service provides improved assurance of the waste-injection process.
