The oil and gas industry requires millions of gallons of water for drilling operations and frac jobs. It is not inexpensive considering the cost of water itself, trucking it to the well site, trucking flow-back water to a central facility unless a mobile treatment unit is available, and then disposing of used water that will not be needed again. Some companies are looking at more efficient and less expensive processes for treating and cleaning flowback and produced water. M-I SWACO is focusing its water-treatment capabilities on providing mobile treatment technology of frac flowback at the source, presently with its filtration technology removing certain micron-sized particles from water; and its reclamation technology, which uses chemical treatment to remove constituents dissolved in the water.
