Openhole Multistage Fracturing Boosts Saudi Arabia Gas Well Rates
Publication: Oil & Gas Journal (OGJ)
Publication Date: 06/01/2011

Openhole multistage (OHMS) fracturing has improved gas production rates and recovery in moderate-to-tight reservoirs in Saudi Arabia. To date, 17 OHMS fracturing assemblies have been installed in deep gas carbonate and sandstone wells in southern area gas fields, with 14 of those wells being stimulated and flowed back. OHMS technology is fairly new to the Middle East because conventional Middle East horizontal wells usually produce at high rates and only require small stimulation treatments. However, the tight gas zones in Saudi Arabia lie deeper and are more complex with higher temperatures and pressures, requiring much more accuracy and precision in applying OHMS technology.
