The Schlumberger HiWAY flow-channel hydraulic fracturing service, which has been successfully applied to hundreds of vertical wells worldwide, is now available for horizontal completion applications. The service effectively alters the way proppant fractures generate conductivity, resulting in improved oil and gas production performance, infinite fracture conductivity, and greater effective contact area. The HiWAY service decouples fracture productivity from proppant permeability, allowing hydrocarbons to flow through steady flow channels instead of the proppant pack like with conventional fracturing techniques. In the Eagle Ford shale, Eagleville field, South Texas, an operator applied the HiWAY service in two horizontal wells and conventional treatments in two offset wells. After 60 days, the HiWAY-treated wells produced an average of 26,535 barrels of condensate, compared with 18,555 barrels of condensate in the wells treated with conventional methods.
