The use of real-time data in the oil and gas industry resembles many of the real-time processes that people use in their daily lives, such as checking stock market activity online or getting to a previously unvisited destination using a GPS device. The value of real-time operations is more than just accessing data or viewing it with software. The principal value is derived from modeling of the data to analyze and predict problems. Enhancing the use of real-time data monitoring systems with a dynamic real-time predictive approach—coupled with a clear strategy, defined goals, and close collaboration between field crews and Operations Support Center domain experts—is demonstrating the potential for a step change in well construction and production performance.
