Operator Simultaneously Drills and Opens Hole from 17-in to 38-in With Reduced Axial Vibration

An operator wanted to reduce downhole axial vibration and increase ROP to simultaneously drill and open the hole from 17 in to 38 in. Schlumberger engineers recommended using the 14-in Shock Sub impact and deviation reduction tool in the BHA (17-in bit and 26-in × 38-in hole opener). Using this solution, the operator successfully drilled the section with desired ROP and reduced axial vibrations, protecting the surface equipment and BHA components from vibration and lowering the drilling cost per foot.
