FAZEPRO and FAZEBREAK Systems Help Operator Exceed Production Expectations by More Than 20%

An operator planned to complete the 8 1/2-in horizontal section of three wells with inflow control devices (ICD) and swellable packers. Based on previous experience, a nonaqueous reservoir drill-in fluid (RDF) was requested to control reactive shale layers found in the sand reservoir. To avoid potential damage to the completions, the operator also sought a filtercake breaker with a low corrosion rate.

The operator used a PowerDrive RSS and the PeriScope HD service to geosteer the 8 1/2-in sections—drilling at an average ROP of 25–30 ft/h. Using offset well data in OPTIBRIDGE software, M-I SWACO optimized the bridging particles in the FAZEPRO system for a thin, impermeable filtercake. The FAZEBREAK system cleaned up the wells while maintaining the integrity of the sand control screens. Oil production from the three horizontal wells exceeded operator targets by 20–25%.
