MULTIBACK Tool Combination Reduces Rig Time and Provides Efficient Wellbore Cleanup in a Single Trip

The government of Argentina permitted three operators to develop new offshore reserves in the Vega Pleyade condensate field. To access and unlock potential gas reservoirs, the operators needed to efficiently perform wellbore cleanup operations in a gas well with a 1,312-ft [400-m] horizontal drain. This included scraping gravel-pack and production packer setting depths and recovering compacted sand, drill cuttings, and metal shavings.

A 9 5/8-in MULTIBACK combination casing cleaning tool was used to scrape packer setting depths for installing the gravel pack and a 13 3/8-in RAZOR BACK WITH TOP DRESS MILL specialized casing and liner top cleaning tool scraped clean the packer setting depth for production. A 13 3/8-in WELL PATROLLER tool confirmed a short-trip BOP jetting’s recovery of approximately 34.8 lbm [15.8 kg] of compacted sand, drill cuttings, and metal shavings. Additionally, two MAGNOSTAR high-capacity magnets positioned at the 9 5/8-in liner and one MAGNOSTAR magnet on the 13 3/8-in casing recovered 205 lbm [93 kg] of metal debris.
