Abstract

As a result of the tremendous investment in R&D for permanent downhole gauges (PDGs) over the last 10 years, this pacing technology is no longer new to the industry. For some operators it is now a standard component of completions. Others perform a financial model analysis to justify its use.

Is there a real need to install PDGs or are they just another fancy luxury that gives limited financial return? How much data do petroleum and reservoir engineers need to understand the reservoir?

This paper discusses the financial model analysis process and demonstrates the tangible and intangible benefits of PDG technology and its added value to the full life cycle of the field.
