Accurate, precise control—enabling trouble-free drilling
The DAPC dynamic annular pressure control system is the preferred automated MPD system for applications needing a fast, high degree of control. It is a benchmark system with the field proven ability to control pressure in applications recognized as singular achievements.
The DAPC system includes proprietary control technology linked to a real-time hydraulics model, an automated choke manifold, an automated backpressure pump (if required), distributed system sensors, and the rig data communication network.
A modular configuration significantly reduces the footprint and installation time, making it ideal for small platforms and rigs with limited available space.
High-value achievements
The DAPC system was the first automated control system approved for use in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, the first to be remotely operated on an offshore platform from an onshore center, the first to provide closed-loop bottomhole pressure (BHP) control with real-time pressure while drilling (PWD) transmitted via wired drillpipe, and the first to manage BHP while drilling with casing and cementing.
Our experience also includes high-value wells in multiple, depleted deepwater fields that were conventionally impossible to drill, including the first such well ever drilled. The DAPC system provided critical control that helped extend the productive life of these mature fields, while reducing the cost of drilling by accurately managing the wellbore pressure in severely depleted margins.
With its unmatched control and ability to respond to sudden changes in flow in a matter of seconds, as well as limit the change in equivalent circulating density (ECD) to just a few bars of pressure, the DAPC system can—and has—redefined drillable limits and expanded development portfolios.
