Maximize confidence during the 29th licensing round

The 2015 seismic acquisition program led by the UK Oil and Gas Administration (OGA) used fit-for-purpose regional workflows to achieve both the high image quality and rapid turnaround requirements of the large government-funded survey.

However, there is potential to maximize the value to both new and legacy datasets of the Mid-North Sea High (MNSH) and Rockall Trough areas through the application of more sophisticated workflows. Our reprocessing, inversion, and asset transaction advisory services provide further uplift to the OGA data or existing multiclient libraries to address the specific geologic and geophysical challenges of a target area.

Reprocessing to better understand the subsurface

Diverse geological environments and extreme water depth variation present significant data imaging and processing challenges. Better understand the subsurface with our enhanced reprocessing services, which include early noise attenuation, source and receiver deghosting, demultiple (including interbed multiples), bandwidth extension techniques, and additional velocity modeling for prestack depth migration.

Full-waveform inversion for more velocity detail

Prestack depth migration resolves structural distortions caused by overburden complexity, and the application of full-waveform inversion (FWI) delivers high-resolution and geologically realistic velocity models. This interpretation workflow improves event continuity and structural control reliability.

Depth migration using FWI velocity model (right) was run over a 75-km line segment from the MNSH area and shows additional velocity details throughout the section compared with depth migration using conventional velocity tomography (left). The flattening of the base salt interface is indicated by the black arrows, demonstrating that resolved velocity heterogeneity in the overburden can result in a more reliable interpretation of deeper structures.

Improved seismic volumes are complemented by AVO inversion to estimate reservoir properties calibrated to the wells. Initial tests in both the MNSH and Rockall areas showed the potential to improve structural interpretation and understanding of the geology.
