Petrel Multitrace Attributes
Enhance traditional seismic information for improved data interpretation
Multitrace attributes let the geoscientist create advanced seismic attributes, which help to condition conventional amplitude seismic data for better structural and stratigraphic interpretation tasks, as well as enable powerful 3D volume interpretation workflows. Attributes include Structural Smoothing, Iso-frequency, Variance, 3D Curvature, poststack AVO attributes, and Genetic Inversion.
Workflow
The multitrace attributes enable key workflows for the seismic interpreter. These workflows range from helping to identify and delineate structural and stratigraphic elements in exploration for rapid prospect identification to extract maximum value from seismic data by providing more detail on the subtle lithological variations of the reservoir in the development or production phase.
- The fault signature of the data can be enhanced by calculating variance or chaos, or by filtering structural smoothing with the edge enhancement option.
- A range of 3D curvature, variance, and dip-guided variance attributes helps the interpreter in delineating complex fault structures and in fracture identification.
- A variety of workflows can be derived using a combination of attributes to precondition the data for better horizon autotracking or fault interpretation, and as input to the Ant Tracking workflow.
- Attribute volumes can be used directly for horizon autotracking purposes, or as an input in the geobody isolation and extraction process for improved reservoir characterization.
- Iso-frequency helps the interpreter understand the contribution of individual frequencies to the make-up of the input seismic signal—useful for isolating frequency dependent changes in the signal, such as stratigraphic thinning and fluid effects.
- A fully integrated genetic inversion algorithm enables geophysicists and geologists to predict inter-well properties from seismic data more accurately.
- AVO reconnaissance workflows are enabled through the use of poststack AVO attributes, combined with the Seismic Volume Rendering & Extraction module.
- Attributes can be blended together to better isolate structural and stratigraphic elements.
- The data for seismic facies extraction can be preconditioned using Relative Acoustic Impedance or the chaos attribute to isolate salt bodies.
- Attributes can be combined and users' own attributes generated using the seismic calculator.
Features
Complementing the volume and surface attribute libraries, users have access to more than 40 attributes that can be instantly calculated directly at interpreted events, on nearby uninterpreted events, or between events.
- Advanced attributes, including structural smoothing, Iso-frequency, variance, 3D curvature, and chaos
- Poststack AVO attributes (including AVO fluid strength) for AVO reconnaissance
- Genetic inversion—multilayer neural networks as well as genetic algorithms are combined together to provide an estimation of rock properties using seismic amplitude and the acoustic impedance well logs as training data
- All attributes can be created in virtual mode, allowing the user to interactively control the parameters for quick screening and fine tuning without filling up extra disk space
