Recording, processing, and interpretation of the full multicomponent seismic wavefield give direct access to reservoir properties, which formerly had to be inferred using conventional P-wave seismic data alone. Our clients can expect the following benefits from using WesternGeco multicomponent reservoir services:
Before performing inversion, the seismic data has to be pre-conditioned. The three key steps are:
In the time domain there are several intrinsic problems in PP/PS events matching:
PP and PS events matching in time may become problematic. PP events differ significantly from PS in hydrocarbon saturated rock, therefore events matching are likely to fail at the reservoir level.
Joint inversion is generally performed on sample-to-sample basis, therefore PP/PS events matching become critical on each sample point. Considering the intrinsic problems in events matching, it becomes difficult to satisfy this essential condition, especially at reservoir level. A better way is to match the major correlatable PP and PS events around target horizons and leave uncertainty (linear interpolation) between them, which we call target-orientated PP/PS joint inversion.
