Wavefield Extrapolation Multiple Modelling (WEMM)

Wavefield Extrapolation Multiple Modeling (WEMM)

A new addition to the WesternGeco demultiple portfolio, Wavefield Extrapolation Multiple Modeling (WEMM) provides a complementary approach to our 3D-SMP methods.

Convolution-based 3D surface-related multiple attenuation methods have the advantage that the multiple model is predicted from the input data with no a priori knowledge of the subsurface. These methods can, however, be challenged by complex 3D multiples, particularly when sparse or wide-azimuth acquisition methods are used.

WEM Modeling uses a previously produced v(x,y,z) velocity model and migrated seismic image to compute a multiple model that can then be subtracted from the input data. This means that the process is effectively independent of acquisition geometry, and of particular interest for application to wide-azimuth towed-marine surveys.
