Multicomponent Processing Technology
WesternGeco multicomponent processing technology consists of a comprehensive array of algorithms and workflows to maximize value from your multicomponent data, whether it is traditional OBC (2C / PZ) or mode-converted (PS) shear waves.
Multicomponent data must be corrected for recording vector infidelities and converted-wave data processed with appropriate handling of anisotropy for both P and S velocities. S-waves also become polarized in the subsurface and we can accurately compensate for these shear-splitting effects.
Analysis of the hydrophone (P) and the vertical geophone (Z) response can significantly improve the PZ summation, reducing the receiver ghost and free surface-multiple noise contamination.
Analyze and correct for the effects of azimuthal anisotropy.
The extra value of multicomponent data is derived from the careful interpretation and then inversion (see below) of both the conventional PP, PS, and/or SS data. This requires detailed event correlation, or registration.
Extend multicomponent processing into the reservoir domain.
