Minimizing land seismic environmental impact

An example of the practical use of the EcoSeis approach is the use of mulch cutters. Mulch cutters are extensively used by WesternGeco land crews when working through areas of brush, whether in Siberia or Sub-Saharan Africa, to help us enable our goal of "leaving no footprint". Mulch cutters enable seismic operations to be carried out with minimum environmental impact. The mulch layer prevents rutting of the surface as the seismic vehicles pass, which in turn prevents the erosion and alteration of local drainage patterns. The mulch layer left behind effectively protects the root stock and actually nourishes the top soil so that there is a rapid regeneration of vegetation during the next season's growth.
