Isometrically sampled marine seismic acquisition
IsoMetrix marine isometric seismic technology delivers high-fidelity isometric, point-receiver seismic data while overcoming spatial wavenumber bandwidth compromises that have limited all previous marine seismic acquisition methods. The result is a reliable, continuous measure of the full upgoing and downgoing notchless seisimic wavefield sampled at a 6.25-m2 point-receiver surface grid—true 3D seismic data available for the first time.
Marine seismic sampling challenges
Conventional marine seismic sampling techniques have provided an effective method of acquiring high volumes of subsurface data offshore. Although described as “3D”, these techniques acquire parallel lines that are coarsely spaced in the crossline direction and could be better described as “2½D”. These conventional methods do not capture the whole wavefield, so are limited in their ability to accurately image the subsurface.
Isometric sampling: a new category of seismic imaging
IsoMetrix technology overcomes these compromises for the first time by enabling the accurate reconstruction of the crossline seismic wavefield at spatial sample intervals (so far only possible in the inline direction). We call this new category of seismic imaging isometric sampling.
Fine isometric sampling in both crossline and inline directions, at a 6.25 m x 6.25 m point-receiver surface grid, makes the data suitable for use in a wide variety of interpretation and modeling applications, such as high-resolution near-surface imaging, deep reservoir characterization, and 4D reservoir monitoring.
The IsoMetrix point-receiver full bandwidth data enable imaging of deep targets while preserving high-resolution shallow data. Exceptional spatial resolution delivers unsurpassed imaging of complex and/or dense overburdens. This step change in image quality and 4D repeatability provides new opportunities to mitigate exploration and production risk and reduce overall finding and development costs.
A revolutionary new streamer design that combines measurements of wavefield pressure and gradient—vertically and crossline—enabling unaliased reconstruction of the pressure wavefield between the streamers.
Simultaneous reconstruction and deghosting of the seismic pressure wavefield—in 3D.
IsoMetrix services harness field-proven technologies for full-bandwidth deghosting, accurate streamer noise mitigation, and unprecedented 4D repeatability.
Technology combinations that extend the capabilities of the IsoMetrix services: delivering full-bandwidth, full-azimuth, long-offset data.
