HOUSTON, April 28, 2017—Schlumberger announced today that Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) has signed an agreement to license data from the WesternGeco Campeche wide-azimuth (WAZ) multiclient seismic survey in the Salina del Istmo province of the southern Gulf of Mexico. The agreement also includes collaboration with WesternGeco in the seismic processing phase of the project as well as for future technology collaborations.

This multiclient contract is the first of its kind for Pemex in Mexico and provides access to new 3D WAZ seismic data in the province. The data license covers deep and shallow water areas in the basin close to prolific geological trends with well-established hydrocarbon systems including the Cantarell and Ku-Maloob-Zaap reservoirs.

Jose Antonio Escalera, vice president, Pemex, said: “Participating in this multiclient survey offers a cost-efficient opportunity for Pemex to access new seismic data libraries for this strategic area.”

Maurice Nessim, president, WesternGeco, Schlumberger, added: “We have invested significantly in new seismic reimaging and 3D acquisition projects in Mexico since CNH issued the first exploration permits for geophysical companies in 2015. We look forward to collaborating with Pemex in the seismic processing phase to deliver enhanced subsalt imaging in this geologically complex area.”
