Product Sheet SSDS High-Torque Connection
Provides greater torque capacity than standard API connections.
The higher torque capacity of these connections substantially increases drilling safety and performance. The superior torsional strength makes them ideal for use in aggressive drilling programs. The double-shoulder design allows the primary external shoulder to serve as the sealing surface, while the secondary shoulder serves as the mechanical stop for the connection. The pin and box connections are engineered to distribute the makeup forces between the two shoulders, providing additional torsional strength for high-torque applications.
Developed to eliminate twist offs and reduce NPT and maintenance costs associated with downhole failures, the XPC extreme-profile single shoulder connection significantly increases fatigue life over standard API NC connections. It is a proprietary connection that is compatible with Schlumberger BHA components.
The advanced connection design offers superior resistance to galling with improved makeup capacity. Using an innovative thread form, with advanced manufacturing processes applied to the thread, XPC connections have more than 10 times improved fatigue resistance and 15% higher torque than the equivalent API NC connection. The connection is designed specifically for BHA components with similar collar inside and outside diameters as standard API NC connections, which prevents the customer from having to compromise the tool hydraulics by modifying its internal components
Using these connectors, challenging well profiles can be drilled with confidence at high ROP in severe downhole conditions, including high rpm, high shock and vibration, and at high dogleg severity, with a greatly reduced risk of catastrophic connection failure. The single-shoulder rotary connector also enables faster makeup speed at the rig.
The SSDS high-torque connection provides torque capacity that is 40% to 50% greater than that of standard connections for comparable-size drillpipe.
ATDS connection provides a torque capacity that is 50% to 55% greater than that of standard connections for comparable-size drillpipe. The advanced-torque series of connections is designed for use on small-diameter drillpipe, such as 2 3/8- and 2 7/8-in sizes, where the torsional strength of the standard-size connections is extremely limited. Drillpipe fitted with the ATDS connection cannot be used with conventional drillpipe.
