LUBE OB

Oil-dispersible lubricant

LUBE OB oil-dispersible lubricant is designed for use in all nonaqueous drilling fluid applications that would benefit from decreasing the coefficient of friction (COF), drag, and potential for differential sticking in the wellbore. This lubricant optimizes the performance of oil-based drilling fluids used in extended-reach or complex-trajectory wells. It is also recommended for slimhole applications to increase effective WOB and ROP, which are frequently important considerations for the economic success of these wells.

Typical Physical Properties
Physical appearance Amber liquid
Relative density 0.90–0.95
Flash point 212 degF [100 degC]

Applications

  • Complex-trajectory and extended-reach wells
  • ECD management
  • Low-solids and solids-laden nonaqueous fluid systems
  • Slimhole wells

Benefits

  • Reduces torque, drag, and differential sticking risks
  • Enables minimal impact on rheological profile
  • Decreases the COF
  • Tolerates solids contamination

Features

  • Compatibility in all nonaqueous fluids
  • Effectiveness over wide density range
  • Treatment concentrations between 1% and 3% by volume
  • Ability to be directly added to the suction pit

Typical treatment concentrations of the LUBE OB lubricant are between 1% and 3% by volume. The product should be slowly added directly to the suction pit using a sufficient amount of agitation. Pilot testing is recommended to determine any effects on the system’s rheological properties for all applications and subsequent treatments.

The LUBE OB lubricant is available in 55-galUS [208-L] drums. These drums should be stored in the tightly closed original container in a dry, room-temperature, and well-ventilated location away from all heat or ignition sources. Protective equipment should be worn by all personnel when handling the lubricant.
