The Ora platform did it again! Marking the 3rd stop of the world tour, the Ora intelligent wireline formation testing platform was launched successfully in a technical session at the Toyota Center in Houston, TX, on 5 March 2020. The event was attended by 60 customers across 20 different operators.

NAO HSE Manager Dave Lawrence presented a safety moment regarding COVID-19 at the beginning of the event. North America Offshore Geomarket Manager Steve Kaufmann then welcomed customers and officially opened the event. In his welcome speech, Steve highlighted that the Ora platform is the realization of Schlumberger’s digital vision leveraging downhole digital hardware and cloud-native software, built from ground up to enable customer success and performance.

Engaging presentations of the Ora platform overview and case studies were then presented by Simon Edmundson and German Garcia, followed by an interactive Kahoot Quiz hosted by Chris Babin. For the next hour, customers interacted with various experts including Oliver Mullins, reservoir fellow, and Ashers Partouche, Ora platform program manager. Customers also experienced the Ora platform through the interactive model; virtual reality; 14 posters of key features, applications, and case studies; and 4 screens containing various information and animations.

At the end of the night, everybody enjoyed watching the NBA game between the local Houston Rockets team and LA Clippers. The event was definitely a win for the Ora platform, Schlumberger, and our customers.

City: Al-Khobar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Date: 14 January 2020

The Ora platform world tour in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was held at IPTC 2020, the first time IPTC has been held in the Kingdom. It was a momentous event in the region for Saudi Aramco, Schlumberger, and the entire industry. The event was attended by Saudi Aramco management, including VP of Petroleum Engineering and Development Nasir K. Al Naimi and Chief Petroleum Engineer Mr. Waleed Al Mulhim, along with petroleum engineering management*. Mr. AlNaimi and Schlumberger KSA Geomarket Manager Ziad Jeha opened the Ora platform launch in Saudi Arabia by cutting the ribbon, marking a new era for reservoir characterization.

In his opening speech, Wireline President Djamel Idri introduced the Ora platform which leverages digital hardware built from the ground up and a digital ecosystem as the first realization of the Wireline 4.0 vision. Djamel thanked Saudi Aramco for its support in deploying the platform in the Kingdom, including some of the first Ora platform field tests which played a significant role in its development. Wireline PSD Manager Bayan Tawfeek Molah further highlighted the key Ora platform jobs for Saudi Aramco which were completed successfully in challenging conditions previously considered impossible. The group then watched an immersive Ora platform 360 video and moved to the Ora platform interactive model where Wireline Evaluation Services BDM Najib Gharib explained the key features and applications of the platform’s digital hardware.

To commemorate the platform’s launch in the Kingdom, Nasir, Djamel, and Ziad cut a specially designed cake of the Ora platform, and an appreciation plaque was presented to Saudi Aramco.

For the broader audience of Aramco and other attendees, an interactive quiz and presentation of the Ora platform was held by Ora Marketing Manager Gunjan Khatri and Wireline Reservoir Product Champion Simon Edmundson.

Following the launch event, a special event was held where Wireline VP-Marketing & Technology Guillaume Borrel presented appreciation plaques to Saudi Aramco subject matter experts for their collaboration and constructive participation in qualification of several new key wireline technologies in the Kingdom.
