The Ora platform did it again! Marking the 3rd stop of the world tour, the Ora intelligent wireline formation testing platform was launched successfully in a technical session at the Toyota Center in Houston, TX, on 5 March 2020. The event was attended by 60 customers across 20 different operators.
NAO HSE Manager Dave Lawrence presented a safety moment regarding COVID-19 at the beginning of the event. North America Offshore Geomarket Manager Steve Kaufmann then welcomed customers and officially opened the event. In his welcome speech, Steve highlighted that the Ora platform is the realization of Schlumberger’s digital vision leveraging downhole digital hardware and cloud-native software, built from ground up to enable customer success and performance.
Engaging presentations of the Ora platform overview and case studies were then presented by Simon Edmundson and German Garcia, followed by an interactive Kahoot Quiz hosted by Chris Babin. For the next hour, customers interacted with various experts including Oliver Mullins, reservoir fellow, and Ashers Partouche, Ora platform program manager. Customers also experienced the Ora platform through the interactive model; virtual reality; 14 posters of key features, applications, and case studies; and 4 screens containing various information and animations.
At the end of the night, everybody enjoyed watching the NBA game between the local Houston Rockets team and LA Clippers. The event was definitely a win for the Ora platform, Schlumberger, and our customers.

Schlumberger Fellow, Reservoir Fluids, and SPE Distinguished Lecturer
Dr. Oliver C. Mullins is a Schlumberger Fellow and member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. He led the inception and development of downhole fluid analysis (DFA) in well logging and is now pioneering the newly codified discipline of reservoir fluid geodynamics (RFG) for novel, unparalleled reservoir evaluation. RFG accounts for processes dictating fluid and tar distributions in oilfield reservoirs.
Recognized with the George A. Olah Award in Hydrocarbon or Petroleum Chemistry from the American Chemical Society and the Gold Medal from the SPWLA, Dr. Mullins is the author of an award-winning book on DFA, coeditor of three books, author or coauthor of 280 papers, and coinventor on 130 allowed US patents. In 2020, he was selected as one of 34 SPE Distinguished Lecturers, being nominated by his peers and selected by a special SPE committee based on the quality, timeliness, and relevance of his presentation. He is Fellow of two professional societies and is Adjunct Professor of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University.
