Anchor-Linear Actuator Tool

Measured, controlled pulling and pushing actions

Linear actuating tool.

Both ReSOLVE instrumented wireline intervention service and ReSOLVE iX extreme-performance instrumented wireline intervention service combine a high-expansion anchor with a high-force linear actuator to reliably apply controlled axial force to well components. The linear actuator tool can be used with either the ReSOLVE Family instrumented wireline intervention services' smart shifting tool or third-party shifting, pulling, and interface tools.

Minimal-impact anchoring for maximized traction

The anchor module opens with the industry's largest reach from the tool OD to the tubing of nearly 2 in [5 cm] diametrically. Up to 150,000 lbf [667,230 N] of anchoring force can be precisely applied across three anchoring arms for maximum traction, and the innovative low-stress anchor grips minimize the impact on the tubing.

Multiple extension and retraction

Once anchoring is confirmed to the surface, the linear actuator can be extended or retracted multiple times to apply a large, controlled force of up to 40,000 lbf to the specific well component. Continuous measurements of displacement down to less than 1-mm resolution and the applied force validate completion of the operation.

The patented, innovative low-stress anchor grips (left) used by the ReSOLVE service are designed with rounded, shallow, and wide grooves that minimize the imprint effects on tubing (top) while also providing very high traction capability. The effects on tubing were evaluated through finite-element analysis of stress (bottom) to optimize the grip design.

Uncompromised by its size, the anchor-linear actuator of ReSOLVE iX service is rated to 350 degF [177 degC] and 20,000 psi [138 MPa] and is NACE MR0175 compliant for sour conditions.

The anchor-linear actuator and smart shifting tools of the ReSOLVE iX service were successfully deployed at 27,700 ft to shift two sliding sleeves, measuring the movement of the sliding sleeves when operated by hydraulic pressure from the surface control unit without pulling out of hole.
