7-in TrackMaster OH-C System Helps Apache Reclaim Lateral Section, Permian Basin

Whipstock allows well reentry despite compromised cement plug

On a trip back in hole after changing out a motor, Apache realized that a cement plug was compromised, preventing reentry into the lateral. The operator decided to drill out a portion of the plug and set an open-hole whipstock.
7-in TrackMaster OH-C System
Engineering groups from Apache and Schlumberger worked together on a plan to anchor the 7-in TrackMaster OH-C system in the pilot hole with the whipface positioned at the base of the existing sidetrack. After pumping the required amount of cement around the whipstock, Apache resumed directional drilling and reentered the lateral. Using the TrackMaster OH-C system enabled the operator to drill the remainder of the lateral to TD and successfully run the casing.
