Carbonate reservoirs are notoriously difficult to exploit. To recover hydrocarbons from carbonate rocks efficiently, scientists and engineers perform formation evaluation and completion optimization at the wellbore scale. At the reservoir scale, operating companies strive to enhance production from existing wells and optimize the placement of new wells. Innovative approaches enhance carbonate formation evaluation, and straightforward rock classification schemes serve as useful frameworks for reservoir-management decisions.
