Alkalinity Control

M-I SWACO provides a suite of additives designed to control the degree of acidity or alkalinity in drilling fluids.

Soda ash

The common name for sodium carbonate, this weak base is used to precipitate calcium, increase pH, and flocculate spud mud.

Citric acid

This organic acid is used to reduce the pH of drilling fluids as well as to remove calcium.

Mild mineral-base lime is used to increase the pH level in calcium-base clear brine fluids.
