DeScal Service: Descaling

Treatments engineered for your unique scale challenge

Our field specialists have the experience and knowledge to design the most reliable and effective treatments to meet your particular scale challenges.

First the location of the scale accumulation is determined—whether it is downhole reducing reservoir permeability or in surface process equipment restricting fluid flow. The next key step is to identify the precise nature of the mineral scale being targeted—sulfate, carbonate, or sulfide—and to determine whether it contains naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM).

Post-treatment analysis

As a routine part of the descaling operation, the DeScal descaling, decontamination, and decommissioning service uses a proprietary diagnostic software to provide post-treatment analysis. With this tool it is possible to determine the efficiency of the treatment by separating the complex mixture of returning fluids into spearhead, dissolver, formation water, and seawater.

The known chemical compositions of each of the component fluids then enables determination of the mineralogy and mass of the removed scale species—calcium carbonate (CaCO3), calcium sulfate (CaSO4), iron oxide (Fe2O3), iron carbonate (FeCO3), iron sulfide (FeS), barium sulfate (BaSO4), or strontium sulfate (SrSO4).
