KUDU Tough Coat corrosion- and abrasion-resistant rotor coating is an advanced spray metal coating applied to progressing cavity pump (PCP) rotors. Compared with chrome, it significantly improves resistance to corrosion and abrasion, increasing rotor life and production efficiency and reducing operating expenses in light, medium, and heavy oil applications.

A rotor with the KUDU Tough Coat coating running at 400 rpm in a highly corrosive, heavy oil application is capable of maintaining the pump at high efficiency throughout its run life. The coating also works well in environments that are not corrosive or abrasive.

Improve rotor run life

Extensive field analyses have shown significant rotor run life improvement in light, medium, and heavy oil applications. This chart shows three consecutive rotor runs in the same well at the same 195 rpm. The first two chrome rotors lasted 748 and 953 days, with pump efficiency dropping continuously. The pump with the KUDU Tough Coat coating was operating at 83% efficiency after more than 1,200 days. In 95% of field tests, the KUDU Tough Coat coating prolonged rotor life in adverse conditions and continually achieved high production rates.
