Resman tracer technologies

Seeing is believing.

SLB Brand art of cubes representing reservoirs

Flow is invisible. Tracers make it measurable.

Resman tracer technologies from SLB bring clarity to the subsurface by tracking fluid movement across the reservoir—proving production inflow, interwell connectivity, and stimulation effectiveness with unmatched resolution and reliability.

These tracer signals feed directly into digital workflows and reservoir models—delivering insights that accelerate decision-making and optimize long-term production and recovery.

Why tracers?

How do you measure flow—on its own terms?

Tracer-based workflows offer a passive, precise, and proven way to characterize flow dynamics in the reservoir and wellbore. Operators traditionally face fundamental challenges in subsurface characterization:

  • Limited access to the sandface in producers—especially with ESPs, subsea wells, or multilateral junctions
  • No physical access to the reservoir itself
  • Historically low sensitivity and resolution in subsurface monitoring data
  • Difficulty interpreting large, complex tracer datasets without digital tools

SLB removes the barriers to well and reservoir flow surveillance visibility—end to end

Tracer technologies provide the only direct measurement of mass transport available in the industry. These systems are wireless, passive, and intervention-free—delivering reliable signals under true reservoir conditions.

But tracers are just the beginning. The value comes from the full experience:

  • Organic and polymer chemistry for precision control
  • Industry’s largest tracer library, including >200 unique signatures
  • Ultimate sensitivity—parts-per-trillion detection and beyond
  • Tracer Track™ visualization solution
  • Seamless integration with SLB's broader surveillance portfolio, including OptiFlow™ reservoir, well, and network solutions

Together, these components form a complete well and reservoir surveillance solution—from molecule to model.

Resman tracer technologies enables a range of tracer-based services designed to address specific flow monitoring challenges across production, reservoir management, and stimulation workflows for oil and gas, geothermal and CCS applications.

Wireless inflow profiling throughout the life of the well

Production tracers are embedded in the lower completion and released over time to reveal zonal inflow distribution. These tracers deliver a passive time-series record of zonal inflow—captured without intervention, even in wells where other surveillance is not feasible.

Use cases:

  • Monitor zonal inflow for collection of history matching data and efficient intervention planning in challenging completions, including ICDs, AICDs, ESP wells, intelligent or multilateral systems
  • Quantify contribution from individual zones over time to optimize artificial lift or well performance
  • Extend inflow tracking beyond the reach of fiber or conventional logging—especially in subsea or retrofit wells

Prove fluid pathways and interwell connectivity

Injected into the reservoir through an injector well, these tracers travel with the fluid and are later detected at production wells. Their arrival confirms connected pathways, reservoir sweep, and residual oil saturation—enabling evidence-based reservoir modeling.

Use cases:

  • Injector-to-producer connectivity
  • EOR efficiency and sweep assessment
  • Reservoir simulation calibration and history matching

Quantify stimulation effectiveness during flowback and early production

Resman™ stimulation tracers simplify how operators evaluate the effectiveness of hydraulic fracturing and acidizing treatments. Deployed stage-by-stage or zone-by-zone, these tracers reveal how fluids move through the reservoir and return to surface—delivering actionable insights on fracture-driven interactions, stage contribution, and stimulation cleanup efficiency, all without production disruption.

Use cases:

  • Log stage- and cluster-level production without intervention
  • Assess stimulation fluid cleanup, durability, and connectivity
  • Diagnose fracture-driven interactions across offset and infill wells
  • Quantify contribution from each zone to identify underperformance
  • Monitor flow paths, sweep complexity, and zonal recover
  • Enable smarter re-fracturing and stimulation optimization decisions
