Clearing a smooth path for methane reduction and reporting

Methane emissions are among the most tightly scrutinized part of oil and gas operations. From regulatory requirements for measuring emissions and deploying low-methane technologies to voluntary reporting programs such as the UNEP* Oil & Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0) program, there are many stakeholders involved. Our consultants work with your teams—at headquarters, asset, and facility level—to meet the requirements of these compliance programs.

You can use SLB as a one-stop-shop to coordinate planning, measurement, and reporting. Alternatively, you can choose to complement your own organization's practices with individual services, such as simulating methane emissions from tanks by using rigorous thermodynamics.

Our team has deep subject matter expertise in the work required to achieve the OGMP 2.0 Gold Standard and meet your other methane goals. One of the team members led the workgroups that put together the OGMP 2.0 technical guidance documents, and we have a proven track record in helping customers achieve the Gold Standard. The team can also assist with many other aspects of developing and implementing a methane road map.

To help you make cost-effective decisions when you begin planning your emissions reduction program, we create marginal abatement cost (MAC) curves tailored to your assets and highlight the net cost and potential emissions reduction for each available technology.
MAC curves illustrate the amount of greenhouse gas emissions that can be avoided by deploying a specific technology in a specific location and the net cost of the deployment.

How we work with you

Part of SLB End-to-end Emissions Solutions, our methane consulting service begins with a thorough understanding of your assets and goals. We use advanced detection, monitoring, and measurement technologies to identify, pinpoint, and quantify emissions from the air and on the ground.

Our gas process engineers develop the MAC curves that illustrate the amount of GHG emissions that can be avoided by deploying a specific technology in a specific location, the net cost of the deployment, and the additional revenues that result from keeping more gas or product in the pipes.

To reduce flare emissions, we identify flares that can be combusted more efficiently, optimized for better gas processing, or eliminated altogether. Our assessments prioritize emissions reduction steps based on the environmental and economic benefits of each potential action. We can then provide a customized plan for each asset and location.
