PressPro RT software delivers real-time downhole measurement at any point in the wellbore during drilling.
Offset analysis of the high-risk well indicated multiple challenges, including the potential for wellbore instability, stuck pipe, and dynamic fluid losses. To overcome these challenges, Aramco sought out digital solutions to address challenges faced in the offset well at the 8⅜-in section.
SLB recommended the PressPro RT measurement software and RheoProfiler rheometer to enhance drilling operations by modeling and managing downhole pressures and increasing the accuracy and frequency of drilling fluid rheology checks. The section was drilled vertically from 14,486 ft to 16,180 ft through heterogenic formations composed of 30% shale, 40% sandstone, and 30% siltstone. After reaching TD and completing an extended logging run, the liner was successfully run and set in place.
The intervention from the PressPro RT software resulted in a significant time savings of 7 hours, with the potential to save an additional 7 hours if the service’s recommendations had been strictly followed. Circulation recommendations optimized hole cleaning and tripping schedules, effectively preventing surge and swab. The PressPro RT software data visualization was built and shared with Saudi Aramco, enhancing their decision-making process. The RheoProfiler rheometer enabled a total of 146 mud checks to be performed over 22 days, averaging more than 6 mud checks per day. This frequency was 2.2 times higher than conventional testing methods, demonstrating the efficiency and reliability of the automated testing system.
