The definitive choice for optimal borehole quality with surveying times 75% faster than conventional surveys.
Dynamic gyro compass technology and gyro-while-drilling service enables operator to reduce surveying time by 61%
Using dynamic gyro compass (DGC) technology with GyroLink™ definitive gyro-while-drilling service, a major operator in offshore Angola reduced tophole surveying time by 61% while increasing drilling efficiency.
Historically, tophole surveys were taken before or after connections, using 100% of connection time for surveying. Noise often required repeats, increasing rig time and costs. As a result, the operator sought a solution to acquire surveys during connections with zero repeats to save rig time and improve drilling efficiency.
Aligned with the operator’s efficiency goals, SLB proposed deploying DGC technology in the tophole sections to boost surveying efficiency and reduce the risk of repeat surveys at the same depth. Implementing DGC technology achieved a total rig-time saving of 127 minutes in the tophole sections, representing a 61% reduction in surveying time compared with traditional GyroLink service surveys conducted either before or after connections. This collaborative approach highlighted our differentiated technology relative to competing gyro-while-drilling platforms.
