Slickline-retrievable blanking plugs are available to hold differential pressure in the tubing string from above, below, or both. They can be used in low- or high-pressure applications with differential pressures up to 10,000 psi [69 MPa]. High-temperature seals for operating above 300 degF [149 degC] are also available. Some blanking plugs can be easily converted to equalizing standing valves or circulating plugs.
Blanking Plugs
Hold pressure from above or below. Used in applications requiring bleeding off pressure in the tubing or circulating above the plugs. Also used as test plugs for testing tubing or packers.
Circulating Plugs
Hold pressure from below and allow flow from above. Used to plug formation pressure in the tubing string while providing adequate flow area for pumping into the formation.
Equalizing Standing Valves
Ball-and-seat-type check valves. Hold pressure from above while allowing flow through the plug from below. Used in intermittent gas lift wells to contain fluid in the tubing string during an injection cycle, or to set packers and test the tubing string.
