By combining TruLink™ definitive dynamic survey-while-drilling service and GyroLink™ definitive gyro-while-drilling service, SLB developed a new tool code that made it possible to reliably drill wells that were previously considered impossible to drill.

A major operator was exploring ways to maximize its production through infill drilling in its existing fields with proven crude oil reserves. However, this approach led to asset congestion. While several service providers were tasked with planning over thirty potential wells from three offshore platforms, most of these plans could not meet safety and placement standards. As a result, the operator selected a few wells with the lowest risks for drilling under special exemptions, while the remaining wells were deemed undrillable. To address this challenge, SLB proposed a technologically innovative solution that could enable the drilling of these 30 undrillable wells.

Backed by over 300 hours of technical analysis, combining the Trulink and Gyrolink services improved well placement in congested fields. This enabled previously undrillable wells to be drilled, solving a major challenge for the operator’s offshore platform operations. Over 30 well sections were successfully completed, enabling the operator to extract more energy from these fields and support its goal of helping to meet global energy demand.
