A bold decision to step into the unknown
My journey at SLB began with a bold decision to step into the unknown.
I had just completed the Shell Intensive Training Program in Nigeria, where I learned the value of rigorous standards and technical discipline. Soon after, I joined SLB and was offered a field assignment in Turkmenistan.
It was far from home and completely foreign to me. But it felt right. So, I took the assignment and never looked back.
Little did I know that this experience would become the foundation of my professional journey. Working in tough conditions with dedicated teams taught me resilience, a deep respect for those who deliver safely under pressure, and an early belief in technology as a practical driver of progress. I learned that leadership is most effective when it stays close to operations, where critical decisions are made and collaboration is paramount.
I’ve had the privilege of working for an organization that upholds not only these values, but also those that shaped me long before my career began. My parents instilled in me a strong sense of integrity and humility, along with the importance of doing the right thing even when it is difficult.
At SLB, leaders reinforced these values by trusting me with responsibility early, challenging me to grow, and holding me to the highest standards.
It wasn’t easy, but I’ve learned that people—from those who deliver our mission to those we serve around the world—sit at the heart of everything we do. At home, my wife and kids have been my anchor, reminding me that purpose begins and ends with people.
Over the past two decades, I’ve led teams across continents in roles where safety and performance go hand in hand. What has remained constant, regardless of region, is the positive impact our industry has on people’s lives. The energy we help deliver supports opportunity, progress, and prosperity in communities around the world.
Many of these contributions don’t show up in formal role definitions.
One of the experiences I value most, for example, is developing future leaders and passing the baton to the next generation to continue building a better future. Seeing people grow in confidence, step into greater responsibility, and create impact beyond what they once imagined is one of the most meaningful measures of success for me.
Which is why, as SLB marks its 100th anniversary, I feel proud of what we’ve accomplished and optimistic about what comes next. The future may be unknown, but one thing is certain: we will continue to innovate, invest in people, and drive progress for them and the planet.
