Sometimes you need a push—and a safety net

When the assignment letter arrived for my first SLB role as Managing Director of Australasia in 2018, I was thrilled—but also terrified.

I had come into SLB through the Cameron acquisition just two years prior. I didn’t know the full breadth of the business yet, and I had already navigated two major relocations. To make matters harder, my husband had just joined me in Houston and wasn't ready for another move.

Though he supported my career, he decided not to make the move. I went anyway. And I’m so glad I did.

“What I see across SLB every day is an environment that rewards merit, talent, and hard work, while giving people the backing they need to step outside their comfort zone.”
– Amy Chua

That position became one of the most fulfilling roles of my career. My husband and the male leaders supporting me at the time were shrewd, tough, and demanding—but also deeply supportive. They modeled what true, high-standards partnership looks like, be it at home or at work.

That experience reflects what I see across SLB every day: a culture built on agility, resilience, and a relentless growth mindset. It’s an environment that rewards merit, talent, and hard work, while giving people the backing they need to step outside their comfort zone.

Today, as a Connect Women sponsor, I pay that forward. I actively encourage male leaders to be true allies in our gender balance journey, inviting them into the conversation and in progressing our leadership journey together.

People often ask me about navigating change, especially as my own career path has evolved beyond traditional oil and gas and more recently, into the emerging data center infrastructure industry.

The truth? The core values are still the same.

Whether we’re powering energy networks or scaling high-density thermal management and power infrastructure, the fundamental principles don't change. It takes technical rigor, speed, adaptability, and leveraging our engineering expertise when we embrace these brand-new challenges. And it continues to be about people, working with customers, building team camaraderie, and collaborating with partners.

Over the last century, our industry has fueled global economies and elevated living standards worldwide. Today, we’re taking those same core capabilities into completely new industries, proving that a true growth mindset knows no sector boundaries.

I am just one beneficiary of that culture.

100 years into SLB’s legacy, I remain in awe of our technological breakthroughs and the drive and tenacity of our people. I'm excited to take on the next era of AI Data Center infrastructure alongside my SLB team.

Here’s to agility, resilience, and the next century of innovation.
