Ten years ago, I joined SLB through the Cameron acquisition while living in southern Chile. Today, as SLB celebrates its 100th anniversary, I’m working fully remotely from my home in northern Argentina.

The path between those two moments was neither direct nor predictable. After a severe illness transformed my life, I wasn’t sure whether returning to work would be physically or logistically possible, or whether there would still be a place for me here.

But throughout my SLB journey, I’ve seen that community is built through the choices we make when life happens and circumstances change.

That was demonstrated powerfully to me when I received my first promotion, shortly after discovering I was pregnant. I worried that my upcoming maternity leave might affect that decision. Instead, the team congratulated me and made it clear that my job would remain there waiting for me.

Years later, when illness forced me to take a long and unexpected break, I knew I’d face yet another challenge once I was ready to return: I needed a fully remote role and lived far from any SLB location. It required special approval—special approval I ultimately got thanks to the support and flexibility of numerous colleagues.

I was able to return as a communications specialist and then transition into a project manager role, something I'd been working toward for years. Returning also meant relearning: I completed a data mining course, which led me to start using AI in my daily work in ways I hadn't anticipated.

A company's true impact is measured in the choices people make for each other. And when illness had me questioning whether I could come back at all, the answer turned out to be yes—not because it was permitted, but because enough people made deliberate choices to make it so.

As SLB looks ahead to the next century, I’m confident we’ll keep making those choices, for whoever comes next.
