Horizontal well calibration

Tailored solutions hero image

Challenge

  • Horizontal well placement in correct zones in static models is important for robust model quality, and essential for production history matching.
  • Accelerating time to update static models with newly drilled horizontal wells for field development plans.
  • Enhancing decisions to identify wells having problems along trajectories through diagnostic tools.
  • Fitting the horizontal producer and injector wells in correct zones in static models.
  • Very limited seismic data to guide the structural variation along horizontal well path.
  • Inconsistent models not suitable for field development planning.

Solution

The Horizontal Well Calibration solution is an automated approach designed to pinpoint wells experiencing trajectory issues and utilizes Petrel subsurface software workflows to ensure wells remain within the desired zone. This solution features a diagnostic tool that identifies problematic wells. Based on the diagnostic report and the input of newly corrected structural surfaces, the 3D structural model is refined using the Make Horizon process or the Local Model Update option. This refinement ensures that wells stay within the zone and maintains thickness consistency across all zones by propagating thickness corrections throughout the model.
