Setting a new benchmark for sucker rod pump performance

Harbison-Fischer Deka™ diamond technology is a proprietary coating technology for sucker rod pump barrels. It effectively prevents abrasive wear, dramatically extending rod lift pump life and maintaining pump efficiency. By integrating a proven nickel-based formula with our uniquely engineered diamond coating, Deka technology minimizes corrosion- and abrasion-related barrel failures. The improved reliability minimizes costly downtime and operational setbacks in demanding applications.

The innovative coating process ensures strong adhesion that avoids delamination and enables reusing the barrels, reducing overall service costs. Testing shows that all these improvements make SLB barrels featuring Deka technology the hardest—and hence the most durable—barrels in the market. Tests have also demonstrated improved plunger protection through reduced counterbody wear. Operators can speed up pumps, chase production into the curve, and select a deeper set point without compromising either performance or durability.

Manufactured with the most robust and precise processes available, our barrels routinely exceed industry standards for product tolerance, assuring a consistently high-quality, reliable coating that you can trust.

Bar graph showing Deka technology is harder than hardened nickel carbide, chrome, and nickel carbide.
Laboratory testing has demonstrated that Deka technology exhibits 90% higher hardness than standard nickel carbide and 50% lower volume loss due to wear compared with the next-highest-rated abrasion-resistant solution.

Superior abrasion resistance and corrosion protection for sucker rod pump barrels
  • Environments with severe abrasion and corrosion
  • Pumping in the curve or in highly deviated conditions
  • High-temperature wells
  • Rod pump applications requiring extended barrel life
  • Applications with high water cut, H2S, and CO2 exposure
  • Wells experiencing excessive barrel and plunger wear
  • Wells with high levels of interference and damage due to sand or other solids
  • Proprietary nickel-based, diamond coating
  • Uniform diamond particle distribution for reinforcement and wear protection

How does it work?

Deka technology is engineered to eliminate the trade-offs commonly associated with traditional barrel technologies. Conventional options typically prioritize either abrasion resistance or corrosion protection, often sacrificing durability or performance. Our proprietary diamond-coated barrel technology combines a corrosion-resistant nickel matrix with embedded synthetic diamond particles to create a highly durable surface, capable of withstanding the severe abrasion, corrosive fluids, and elevated temperatures commonly experienced in harsh downhole environments.

What does it replace?

Our sucker rod barrels featuring Deka diamond technology provide an alternative to boronized, chrome-plated, nickel carbide, and hardened nickel carbide barrels.
